The History of Brother

Brother was founded in Nagoya, Japan, and has been a force in technology manufacturing for more than 75 years. Brother has been in Europe since 1958. Company founder Mr Yasui set the wheels in motion working with a small business in Dublin – sewing machines produced by the company were imported across the continent. In 1968, Brother acquired the Jones Sewing Machines Company in Audenshaw, Manchester. Brother International Europe and Brother UK Ltd now operate from this site.

The Brother Industries (UK) Ltd manufacturing plant in North Wales was established in 1985 producing fax machines and typewriters. The factory in Ruabon, near Wrexham, now operates as the UK recycling site.

Brother operates manufacturing facilities in 23 countries and has offices in more than 100 countries worldwide.
