The worlds most conformable and flexible abrasive material. Because of the low conductivity of abrasive wool, it can be used in the vicinity of batteries. Steel wool can easily be ignited by a voltage source as low as a household battery, due to very rapid oxidation. Abrasive wool is the safer alternative where batteries are present in the workshop. Where abrasive hand work and machinery meet, there is a real fire hazard from steel wool exposed to sparks, abrasive wool is inflammable, so it is difficult to ignite from sparks.
